The European Day of Languages is a well-established opportunity to raise awareness about language learning and linguistic diversity.
In view of this, please find an activity done by a group of year 9 students (2023/2024) taking Spanish at our school.
They conducted an interview with Mr. Hernandez Arvelo, the assigned Spanish language assistant. The aim of the interview was to enhance students’ speaking and listening skills. Prior to the interview, they reviewed key vocabulary and phrases related to everyday activities, hobbies, and cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries. Questions were formulated, and included questions about daily life (e.g., “¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?” – “What do you like to do in your free time?”), discussion about cultural experiences (e.g., “¿Cuál es tu deporte / musica español /a favorito /a?” – “What is your favorite Spanish sport / music?”).
Students actively participated by listening, asking follow-up questions, and practicing their pronunciation.
